Gratitude makes for a Great Attitude
Count your blessings. No, really. Count your blessings.
If there’s one thing that can change your life and bring in more abundance, it’s the mindset of gratitude. I cannot stress enough the importance of gratitude in your life and how much of an impact it will have on your moxie. Gratitude is more than just an action; it creates a shift in your mindset, changes the way you think about things, and provides you with a better outlook in your life. When life doesn’t seem to be going so well, the simple act of gratitude can be a real game changer for many people. It’s really hard to be in a crappy mood, and hating everything around you, when you have a mindset of gratitude.
I always suggest that my clients start a journal to record ten things that they are grateful for every day. It’s pretty easy the first day, but once you go through your family, friends and pets, things start to become a bit more challenging. This is where you have to dig a little deeper to find the “not so in your face” things to be grateful for. How about a sunrise or sunset? Maybe your vision, hearing, and the ability to walk? How about that television you watch the news on every night? It’s funny how we tend to look for the really big things to be grateful for when there are really so many little things in our life that we take for granted.
I remember opening up my fridge one morning and having some stuff fall out and hit me on the foot as it tumbled to the floor. Although my immediate reaction was to complain about how much stuff there was on the shelves, and that we couldn’t possibly cram another thing into the damn fridge, I quickly bit my tongue. Instead, I stood there silently and became grateful for having an abundance of food, because there are many people who open the door of their fridge every day in this country to see empty shelves. Hell, there are many people in this world who have no idea what a refrigerator even is. And I’m about to bitch because I’ve got too much food?
Let’s think about this. By not showing gratitude it is essentially a slap in the face to your creator, whether it’s God, Universal Energy, or whatever you want to call that which has provided you with all that you have. It’s like a spoiled, ungrateful child showing no appreciation for what they have, but wanting more.
Really?
Having gratitude for all the good things in life is a piece of cake. Of course, we’re happy for all the good things in life, who wouldn’t be? But how about the not-so-good things in life? Sometimes it’s not so obvious. Well, that’s where we start to separate the children from the adults, my friend. Finding gratitude in things not-so-great is where you truly start to experience some personal and spiritual growth, and that is when your moxie grows.
